Launch of our ‘no road tunnel’ campaign

Some of us got together on the corner of Nicholson Street and Alexandra Pde. For those who don’t know, the grassy park there used to have a large heritage building on it - till VicRoads came in and blew it up early one morning as part of an road widening in the 1990s.
Here’s our first youtube video

Hi there,
As a concerned citizen of Sunshine, we are in the firing line for the proposed East/West link.
If the government opts for the northern route through Sunshine then we are faced with the compulsory aquisition of our home.
Below are some of the concerns regarding this proposal.
• Loss of peoples homes, number of elderly people within our area. Compensation and disruption to their lives will not cater for this.
• Market value will drop when the properties are identified, all of Sunshine will be affected not just the losers of their homes.
• People have paid off their mortgages and will not be eligible to take out loans to cover the increased cost of moving and purchase of another property.
• Massive increase in pollution in the area due to increased transport either over ground or tunnel exhausts.
• Moving congestion from the east to the west where the road exits and joins the ring road.
• Clarification needed to define the exact route as the current submission is too vague
• 240 houses in our small pocket so the real number is going to be significantly more. Numbers fudged to reduce the impact of the report.
• Are any of the council members properties affected in this report? I don’t think so or they wouldn’t be so eager to ratify the report.
• Not only people’s houses will be affected, small businesses will also lose their factories and livelihoods.
• Investment in the area will stop because of uncertainty of the outcome of the scheme on the local area.
• Invest in public transport systems the better choice.
As a very concerned resident of West Footscray I and my family are very much opposed to the proposed east/west link in Footscray. We need better public transport not more cars on the roads carrying just a fraction of the commuters that a good public transport system can carry and I cannot fathom why politicians who are supposed to be our representatives in governance dont get this.
* I and my young family are going to be directly affected by the proposal as the freeway is going to run just in front of my main door and the noise pollution and emissions will mean that we will have to sell up and move.
* With the drop in Market value of our properties we will not be able to purchase another house anywhere near the current value of our 4 year old newly built home.
*We will not be able to take out loans to cover the increased cost of moving and purchase of another property.
*We in the west should not be made to suffer by moving congestion from the east to the west
* I am disgusted by the lack of empathy of the council members presumably because their properties are unaffected by this report.
