Wrong Way: Go Back

There’s a better way to cut traffic congestion and make Melbourne a Greener city.

Lindsay Tanner - where does he stand?

Federal Member of the seat of Melbourne Lindsay Tanner has written a submission against a new road tunnel for inner Melbourne.   Very eloquent he was too.   That was while he was in opposition.  Now he’s in government and federal Minister for Finance, he’s bankrolling a further study of tunnel options, to the tune of $12 million!  (the state government will put in another $18 million).

In the media release, Kevin Rudd says that the options have the “potential to transform the way Melburnians get around”.  Well, the road tunnel won’t - it will lock us in to our congested car dependence and make the problem worse.  And since people don’t take drives or trains for the fun of it, they will continue to move to access the jobs and activities - which means moving inwards towards the city centre, not east-west.

Lindsay, feel free to post below …
