Wrong Way: Go Back

There’s a better way to cut traffic congestion and make Melbourne a Greener city.

Maribyrnong Truck Action Group - swing into action

Greens MLC Colleen Hartland, who spoke at last weekend’s rally of the Maribyrnong Truck Action group says:

Diesel is deadly.  It doesn’t matter where you live.

The Eddington report recommends doing a heap of road work then closing residential streets to trucks.

He wants to shift the trucks to someone else’s residential street, someone else’s kindergarten, someone else’s primary school.

I say close the residential streets to trucks now.

I say, get the main truck routes out of residential areas completely.

Eddington is recommending putting the trucks right through the residential part of Tottenham by widening Paramount Road.

I’m not against widening Paramount Road, but only if Paramount road is shifted west into the industrial area, not left in the residential area.

The part of Ballarat Road Eddington wants to widen goes through residential areas in Footscray and Maidstone.

The part of Ashley Street that Eddington proposes to widen for more trucks goes through West Footscray, Maidstone and Braybrook.

The road solution is for trucks to use Sunshine Road to get to ring road.

But the best solution is to put the freight onto rail.

Trucks shouldn’t be allowed on residential streets - not ANYONE’S residential streets.
